I'm hardly a therapist though so I can't blame you for that response.
As it stands- we all had something to weigh us down.
Ultimately, what we find worst about ourselves seems far less so in the eyes of the ones around us, if that whale was any indicator.

I do stand by every bit of it, but there's a difference between 'i didn't expect you to say you're not good at therapy' and 'i didn't expect you not to mind'.

Obviously what we do in the present is affected by what we do in the past, in more ways than one. I'm certainly not an idiot on that regard- I've come to terms with things there at least.
Did you know I nearly bombed the entire planet once? It was stupid. All it would have taken is a slightly different decision, and I would have been just spiteful enough to do it after all.
...This isn't about that, obviously, but the point is what we did years ago isn't who we are now.
And obviously you were carrying that for longer than you deserved to be.
This isn't intel.
And anyone who considers this sort of thing 'intel' against you is frankly pathetic, using nothing but emotional blackmail over an old incident to do what they want.
...As for negation...no, obviously regret doesn't negate anything. Actions negate. And even then you can't actually negate and erase what's been done or even considered in the past.
The important thing is that your regret means you can learn from it. And probably have, for that matter.
