Egle and Hyde were all mine to begin with, as was Tyst. Squirt I took in after Touya vanished. Newf after Judai did...technically I'm also looking after Bladedge, but...

[The manticore trails off.] ...Even if their owners and partners vanished, I'm not going to leave them to the wilds here.

Right, I think I met Bladedge, when Judai was walking him...

[Atem takes one piece of tuna for himself, careful to eat it over the side, not over the water. It'd be very unappetizing to drop it, and a waste of really good tuna.]

Have you thought about putting them up for adoption...? If they're too much for one manticore to manage, there might be other monsters who'd be willing to look after them.

Well...as long as they're not too much. You need space to keep them, and they're used to living here...

...but, you get lonely when you're up here on your own, don't you? It'd be nice, if you lived closer...people hang out on the roof of the 38-8, or in the rec room downstairs. And even if you don't run into anybody, it's not lonely at all, because there's always somebody home.

Of course. I paid for this place to be what it is, [he huffs- the cat almost prideful in tone.] ...The entire point was for it to be somewhere safe from...everything that keeps happening here, and it's worked.

...there's no reason you couldn't live in one part of the time. You can come back here, if you don't feel safe -- a day or two before the mid month fog is good -- and you can stay in the apartments when you're lonely.

[There is merit to what Atem is saying. The periods of extreme incident can be predicted, to a point, so he'd at least be able to take a guess and get back home. It's not something he's considered, though.
