Oh well! He heads inside as directed, but gives Noa a questioning glance on the way. ] Define "strange".
[ The Ring-Spirit doesn't have much of an opinion on animals in general, but... where do ya draw the "strange"/"not strange" divide in Ryslig? ]
no subject
Immediately, searching root tendrils are waving around the unexpected interloper. Who! Who could it be...WHO...COULD IT BE...]
...Does that answer the question perhaps? She isn't attacking I should note, she's getting a feel for who you are- this is Egle. The others are inside.
no subject
Is... he supposed to ignore her and keep walking? Or does he wait for the tree to... What is the tree hoping to accomplish here? ]
...Trees are animals.
[ He could either be asking a question or simply updating his own mental categories.
So...
Ok then! The tree seems to be friendly, which is great and all, but she's also in the way. ]
...You gonna let me in sometime...?
[ He has no ranks in tree-handling... He's. just gonna try pushing her curious roots to the side. Can he proceed, Egle, has he been sufficiently tree-vetted,, ]
no subject
[Eventually the tree lowers the roots and gives what may be a friendly rustle.] She should let you in now, at least. [Should meaning 'will', of course, and once they're inside there's a few options for seating.
One is the couch. The other is the great many cat perches that double as steps to literally anything anywhere. Perching can be sitting right? Well.
There's some sort of flower pot housing a large fungus beside the couch. Also on the couch are a 'puppy' and a blue sea otter.
So that's probably what he was referring to.]
Ah, Hyde is napping then...
[cw: reference to human sacrifice]
He briefly considers the couch and it's occupants. He doesn't want to risk waking anyone up, especially since... he. doesn't see anyone who's asleep? Hm. He's still feeling a bit antsy anyway, so for now he opts to lean/sit against one of the cat perch step things.
He eyes the pot of fungus dubiously for a moment, but since he's got actual shit to talk about here, how Noa chooses to decorate isn't exactly relevant. ]
Ok, so... Back in the other-Ryslig, Noah and "Ringu" couldn't make any sense out of what was coming back to ...me.
[ He's not sure how much he considers "Ringu" to have actually been him. He crosses his arms, trying not to fidget. ]
I got the context for all that back.
I'd only remembered it for a bit before I came here, but basically...
[ Uh, wait, how much extra context would Noa need? The Pharaoh was an Item-bearer, and also the fucking pharaoh, while Noa... had. actually known a weird amount of Millennium details when the Ring-Spirit first met him. Hmm.
...Still best to start with the simpler version. ]
There was a village, sacrificed to a Dark God in order to make some magic trinkets. [ He unfolds his arms again, and gives the Millennium Ring a little demonstrative shake. The prongs of the Ring jangle. ] One kid managed to hide, but - you already heard the gory details from "Ringu". I had a bit too good of a view from my hiding spot. And the "conflicting" viewpoint came from the Dark God in question. Who is, yeah, also me. Now. I was...n't. both of me, at once, when it went down.
My memories of it were more... in sync? Before the "Ringu" thing. I guess being that for a while made the "excess of memory" more noticeable. ...Fuck, that shit was cleanly split apart when it came back over there...
[ The Ring-Spirit pauses here, thinking of how to ask what he wants to ask. ]
"Ringu" was normal, right? That's how people normally are? Everything is ...they're just them, it's not a big mess like that?
no subject
...He.
Ah.] Oh...
...there is a lot more making sense now... ...Hmn. Normal...I would generally say that's a vague descriptor, but in terms of keeping their identities straight yes. The closest would be certain disorders, to this, but the fact is you're not simply 'two' at the same time, you appear to be the literal harmony of those two. One plus one creating a little more, though that's my guess. As you said, experiencing life as someone on their own probably jostled that- if you were two things in an object... ...I don't think you would have had as much time to really contemplate the matter. No, you wouldn't have physically been able to, in fact...
Regardless, [he adds with a frown.] ...Now we might actually get somewhere when we try to talk through this. Think- all of us become human when we arrive here, hm?
Can you find the problem in what that might cause? It's something we have in common.
[????]
1/2
While he thinks, he gives Noa a different reply. ] Yeah, I counted up to three a while back too - the context part only involved the first two though, so...
[ Finally he gives up. ]
Ugh, I don't know. We both got bodies created from nothing, since I'm supposed to be -[ he jangles the Ring again ]- and you were... some kind of hologram, wasn't it? But I don't know what you're trying to get at.
2/2
I don't know how "normal" people think and I didn't know how much before I was "normal" - but I'm not "normal" now, I've never been for "real", and when I guess what people mean with their vague as fuck requests I guess WRONG too fucking often!
[ ...He may have forgotten that there is supposedly someone sleeping in here. Also that sure is a Lot for "I don't follow, just tell me already". ]
no subject
Noa doesn't really seem bothered by it, just looking at Ring Spirit with a fairly under-impressed aura.]
We weren't human, [he cuts in dryly, desperately refraining from adding an 'idiot'.] I was never capable of that state of hologram technology- that was an adaptation I had to create for myself within Felfri.
When I died as a child I was uploaded into a machine, and made part of it in order to 'survive', [he explains.] But a computer- a machine- is not human.
We did not think like humans, because we were not human.
In other words, think of it like this; you take something that was a plant, or a bird, or anything entirely different from a human being. You give them a human body.
What do you think they'll act like? Despite any extra, new instincts, they'd default to plant, or bird, or similar, even if the tools necessary to do so aren't there.
1/?
He looks pointedly away from them, with the expression of someone who knows they should be apologizing but is refusing simply out of petulance. As a result he does listen quietly enough to Noa though. ]
2/?
So today I learned that if you put a human into a computer, they stop being a human. How was I supposed to know that? I don't know computers, and I know Noah Bækhest better than I do Noa Kaiba. One of you skipped that whole being-a-computer side-quest, you might recall.
3/4
[ The place keeps coming up, and it's making him wonder what he must have missed! It sure seems to have left an impression. ]
4/4
He winces slightly. ] ...Getting sidetracked, right.
But... [ He gestures vaguely as he tries to put his question into words. ]
Ok, not human, makes sense, got it - what do I do about it?
[ He did spend most of a month already thinking about what's wrong - what he can't work out is how to fix it. ]
...Or don't I.
[ Because "no, this is unfixable, you're just fucked up forever" strikes him as realistically depressing enough to be a solid possibility. ]
no subject
[IGNORING ALL OF THAT! As he said, sidetracked.]
Frankly, we need to do some re-conditioning. Parts of yourself are fine enough, they were parts that belonged to a human being. Unfortunately, the other part of you came from a 'god'. As you may have guessed if you've interacted with the Fog, gods don't tend to be especially eager to budge.
Working in our favor is the fact that no matter what, now ALL of you is 'human'- it's a matter of...hmm. Breaking certain habits, really. Relearning how to walk without ignoring who you actually are, and so on. A little less 'walk this way' and more 'walk so that you don't faceplant into the ground'.
So- the easiest way to start will ultimately be to find your biggest personal problem, and dissect it then.
no subject
He takes a breath, and considers the actually-important points.
Hm. Hmmm.
Well, he doesn't like the sound of that last bit. He suspects that's not a thing he could do unassisted either, even if he thinks he knows what that problem is. He does not want to do this.
Not as badly as he wants to NOT keep accidently fucking up with Ryou though, so: shit.
Overall it sounds like a solid plan. He doesn't like the sound of it, but he could see it working, however little fun the process might be. He could also see a potential issue though. ]
...Soooo... when you say "relearning" - what is it that... we're relying on human-me knowing? Speaking figuratively, a metaphor, yes, but what if - what is it that needs to... pre-exist?
[ That is quite the hesitant tone and expression combo! ]
no subject
Essentially, while human beings are impressively stubborn when it comes to what they desire, they are also very good at compromise. And what we're likely going to be doing here, is compromising a lot.
Beyond that, we're just counting on the fact that 'human-you' was just that. Human. Someone who lived and died as one, however normally or abnormally the path.
no subject
...mmMMM, ]
Ssso...
[ Ugh, nope, nope, this isn't helping, what he needs is more info not more time with what very little Noa's given him to work from. ]
...Ok. Look, "Ringu" isn't real; but pretend for a second that's who you're explaining this to. When you say "human" here, do you just mean "mortal, not divine" or do you mean "specifically human"? Because if it's that second one I need more examples of what "human" involves.
no subject
For the most part I mean 'mortal' and 'capable of thought'. Not to say most animals don't have something going on in their heads- actually by my point in time a number of them were found to even have some clear morals going on... ...but there's a certain level of sentience and emotive clarity that would be considered...'human'.
I'll try explaining it in reverse. The idea of most gods- I say this because, frankly, I studied a lot of them from a variety of places before coming here- but the idea of most gods is that they embody some sort of idea. The sun. The earth. The water, so on. Say you were to argue with the Goddess of Love about how something you didn't consider to be 'love' was, in her eyes, that very thing.
You would never convince her otherwise. The thing that is 'love' has decided something counts as it. That's that.
Now we look at the Fog- the Fog has determined we are hers, that what she does is a gift, and so on. And nothing will convince her otherwise, because that is not just who she is, but what. Any argument we make, any word we say against her, will be taken and washed off her face as a lack of understanding. In a sense, one could argue it is.
Because we- rather, any 'human'- can't think like that. I suppose in a sense, there's a chance that part of you can understand where she's coming from though then... ...correct me if I'm wrong on that though.
no subject
Hm.
Well, that's a lot to mull over, actually,,
He doesn't want to just sit in silence while he ponders things though, so the Ring-Spirit also confirms Noa's last comment, nodding absently. ]
She does make sense to me, yeah. We're not that dissimilar - she's a lot nicer than me, but...
[ He trails off there, his main focus elsewhere. The Fog sure did just get accused of niceness though, that is a thing which occurred. ]
no subject
It would make less sense if she wasn't 'nicer'.
no subject
He grimaces. ]
...This is giving me a headache.
[ Every. single. step. of this process is going to give him a headache, isn't it. Shit. ]
no subject
Realistically we were never going to get start to finish in one shot though after all.
no subject
This is going to take so fucking long...
[ He's gonna stick with this, don't get him wrong, but looking forward to the process he is not. ]
...You're stuck with me until the headache wears off, I'm not flying with it.
[ Just. a heads-up there. ]

[ Said like it's something mildly embarrassing rather than strange-and-concerning.
"I need a nightlight", "I need a backdrop of screams", same difference right, ]
