Who exactly is the fog god fighting and why?

You'll not hear of them often but there are more than just Fog and Fourth here, as the latter implies.

If you choose to take a side, that role comes down to you-you could ask her yourself, of course, but there are many roles to fill in war. I won't know which one you in particular were chosen for.

You were definitely chosen for something, however.

What is the war about?

Realistically it's a power play.

Each deity has their own reason for wanting control; each deity finds themselves equally 'good' or 'evil'. Naturally the last time there was a war, it was the Fog that lost.

If you've done your reading you'll notice that history has been subsequently written by the victors to leave out any less than savory deeds the Day and Night gods did during those times.

Enough about them however.

The current war is primarily fought between the Fog and the Fourth-as the name implies they only recently came into being. They've overthrown the natural order of powers, in other words.
